Ash Egan, Founder
Ash Egan is Founder and General Partner of Archetype, and a Venture Partner at Accomplice. He has been investing in crypto companies and protocols since 2015, and previously co-launched ConsenSys Ventures and spent time at Converge VC in Boston.
Ash is known for being an early investor in now pillar companies in the blockchain and crypto space - he invested in Chainalysis' seed round in 2015, led BlockFi's seed round in 2017, led Near's seed round in 2018, and co-led Balancer's seed round in 2019. He also sourced Accomplice's investment in Dapper Labs/FLOW, Bison Trails, and API3 among others, and has angel invested in a dozen companies in the category.
Before falling in love with crypto venture capital, Ash captained Princeton University's squash team and won a national championship in 2012. He was recognized in Forbes 30 Under 30 for Venture Capital in 2020, and serves as a mentor at Harvard Ventures' ConsenSys Tachyon Accelerator.
Danny Sursock, Principal
Danny Sursock is a Principal and Chief of Staff at Archetype. Before joining Archetype, Danny was a Senior Associate in Oppenheimer's Investment Banking group, where he co-led the effort to build a team focused on M&A and Capital Markets solutions for leading disruptive technology companies.
Prior to that, Danny spent 15 years in China where he developed a passion for technological experimentation, building an online marketplace and traveling the region in search of unconventional founders and extraordinary investors.
Katherine Wu, Venture Partner
Katherine Wu is a Venture Partner at Archetype. Most recently, Katherine was the Senior Lead on the Coinbase Ventures team, where she led investments on behalf of Coinbase and scaled the investment team. During her tenure at Coinbase, Katherine oversaw a record-breaking year in deal-making, putting Coinbase Ventures among the most active corporate venture funds in operation. Katherine joined the Coinbase Ventures team from Notation Capital, an early-stage venture capital firm focused on software investments. Prior to Notation, Katherine was the first business hire at Messari, a leading provider of crypto market intelligence products.
Over the years, Katherine has also advised and worked with a number of top tier crypto protocols and companies on issues spanning from investment strategies to go-to-market and other operational processes. Katherine is also serving as the first Research Fellow at the Crypto Council for Innovation, a global alliance of crypto industry leaders that works to demonstrate the transformational promise of crypto, and communicate its benefits to policymakers, regulators, and people around the globe.
Nick Pai, Research Partner
Nick Pai is a Research Partner focused on advising Archetype’s portfolio companies in building sustainable decentralized architecture. Nick is also an early engineer at UMA protocol where he co-leads the smart contract team building an optimistic oracle ecosystem secured by economic incentives.
